If you’ve seen the first two Avengers movies, then you already know that the Avengers are coming together to save the Earth from the villainous Thanos. But how do the early credits scenes of the first Avengers movie set up the next Avengers movie? Find out.
While Marvel Studios has been having a busy year, especially with their summer releases, a lot of fans have been wondering just what lies ahead for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, now we have a hint, as director Peyton Reed has revealed that the plot points that were teased in the post-credits sequence of Captain America: The First Avenger have been seeded into the upcoming Avengers sequel.
Thanks to Kevin Feige and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’re all getting a look behind the curtain to see what’s going on and how it may affect our favorite Marvel superheroes and their respective movies and television series.
Shang-Chi, played by Simu Liu, is Marvel’s newest Avenger, and his cameo-filled solo film concludes with a mid-credits sequence that seems to set up a future Avengers tale. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings contains spoilers. The Sling Ring-wielding Wong (Benedict Wong) calls Shang-Chi and Katy (Awkwafina) to a post-movie conference to discuss the thousand-year-old rings that Wenwu (Tony Leung) mastered as the Ten Rings’ commander. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), a.k.a. the cosmic Captain Marvel, appear remotely via hologram to figure out where the rings came from and send a signal to someplace in the cosmos. You’ve arrived to the circus.
Destin, the director According to Daniel Cretton of Variety, Marvel didn’t know which Avengers will virtually join Wong in the Sanctum until Shang-Chi was in post-production “go through a lot of changes and upgrades based on what’s going on in the MCU’s other programs and movies. It was so reliant on what those characters were up to in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the moment.”
Cretton wanted to reunite with Larson’s space-faring Avenger, who had previously featured in the director’s films Just Cause, The Glass Castle, and Short Term 12. Carol Danvers is often off-world dealing with cosmic dangers, as she will again in 2022’s The Marvels, so the first-time Marvel filmmaker wasn’t sure how to incorporate Captain Marvel in Shang-Chi.
“We spoke about it being Brie,” Cretton recalled, “but we didn’t know whether it was conceivable that Brie could be there.” “It certainly helps that we ended up with holographic copies of these people, so they can simply walk away and go back to whatever insane situation they’re in. And I’m not even sure I understand what they’re up against. All I know is that I propose ideas, and the only time they’re rejected is if they don’t make logical sense in the context of other characters’ ideas.”
Danvers does take a step back, her attention attracted to a beep warning her to a problem somewhere in the MCU that has yet to be disclosed. Later, a post-credits sequence teases Shang-once-estranged Chi’s sister, Xialing (Meng’er Zhang), as she inherits the family company before a post-post-credits scroll announces “The Ten Rings will return.”
Just don’t question Liu about Shang-future Chi’s in Marvel.
“In terms of the future, I’m sure what’s on my mind is the same as what’s on everyone else’s. And, ideally, there will be an Avengers movie in the future “He previously told THR that he could return in an Avengers 5 sequel. “Obviously, I have no knowledge of it, but as a huge fan of the whole series, I am aware that it is the gold star. The media frenzy around one of those homes will be a beast unto itself, so that’s exactly what I’m hoping for.”
