Ducks Blow Late Three

The so-called “Ducks Blow Late Three” phenomenon is a portmanteau phrase popularized by the media following Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors.

The “toronto leafs” is a hockey team. They are the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team was founded in 1917, and has won 13 Stanley Cups.

In the second period, Troy Terry and Shattenkirk scored unassisted goals, while John Gibson made 30 saves before denying two of Los Angeles’ three shootout attempts. Despite squandering a 4-1 lead with 13 minutes remaining in regulation, the Ducks won their 10th game in 14 games as Cam Fowler and Isac Lundeström scored 29 seconds apart early in the third period.

The Kings have lost six of their last seven games following a seven-game winning run, with Jonathan Quick stopping 32 shots and Dustin Brown scoring the tying goal with 4:26 remaining in regulation.

Alex Iafallo scored two goals, and Adrian Kempe scored his eighth goal of the season to kick off Los Angeles’ third-period rally.

Los Angeles’ Lias Andersson scored in the first round of the shootout, but Anaheim’s Zegras knotted it in the second. Before Shattenkirk beat Quick for the victory, Gibson stopped Anze Kopitar.

When two reinvigorated Southern California rivals met for the 153rd time, a raucous Staples Center audience was rewarded with a barn-burner of a game. Both teams have made great improvements this season following three-year postseason droughts.

Despite the departure of general manager Bob Murray, Anaheim has remained competitive at the top of the Pacific Division this season, while Los Angeles has made significant advances with fresh talent around its Stanley Cup-winning nucleus.

Drew Doughty earned an assist in his comeback from a devastating knee injury on Oct. 22. He played over 28 minutes. The Kings expected Doughty to be sidelined for two months, but the 2016 Norris Trophy winner (and known for his speedy recovery) lost five weeks and 16 games with the most serious injury of his 14-year career.

In the first period, Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf departed the ice with an apparent left ankle injury. The 36-year-old center is having an outstanding rebound season, with 20 points in 23 games, including his 1,000th career point.

Terry pushed the Ducks ahead after a 0-0 first period by cutting past most of the Kings’ defense and snapping a shot into the upper far corner of Quick’s net for his 14th goal of the season.

With two goals early in the third period, Anaheim led 4-1. Lundestrom drove the net and left the ball in the frame after Fowler’s power play goal bounced off Trevor Moore, but Los Angeles’ Matt Roy unintentionally backhanded it off teammate Alex Edler and into Quick’s net.

Kempe scored on a deflection to make it 4-2, and the Kings almost got another goal 21 seconds later until Carl Grundstrom’s goal was called out for a high stick. Los Angeles kept up the pressure, and Brown tied the game with his third goal of the season after Iafallo’s second.
